Palestinian Use of Non-conventional Water Resources

The Palestinian Water Authority is responsible for regulating the water sector in the West Bank and Gaza. Specifically in Gaza the stress on availability of water for domestic, agricultural and commercial use is severe. This is one of the reasons to stimulate reuse of wastewater and storm water. Within the framework of the support program of the Austrian Development Jeroen Kool acted as project manager to evaluate the current practices of wastewater collection, treatment and reuse in Gaza, and advising on setting up appropriate technical, institutional and financial structures to optimize the reuse practices.

The work lasted three years, and included an international comparison of organizational and financial structures, and the preparation and implementation of a pilot project for the reuse of wastewater for agricultural practices in Gaza, and the development of quality standards for direct and indirect application of treated wastewater and storm water in Gaza.
